Additional Notes on Joining Equilibrium

Postby Spryte » 26 Jan 2009, 13:04

As with the main post (start there please), this is just your friendly, local, purple fairy with some advice on the best way to approach joining. This isn't any kind of official policy, just some personal advice on what makes it easier for you, and for us, to decide if you're a good fit for our guild.

If you said Yes to everything on the checklist, it's not completely necessary to read this. It offers further explanation of each item on that list, so that you can understand why we're asking.

If you said No to one of the questions.. read on, especially any question you said No to.

CHECKLIST WITH ADDITIONAL NOTES

1) Have you read our Guild Principles? Does this describe your ideal guild?
The Guild Principles define who we are. They are the only cast-iron rules for Equilibrium. We tend to express other policy as guidelines - hints on how to best live up to our principles. If you find another way to do that, that's fine, but the Principles remain. They are tough to live up to. If this isn't you, isn't what you really want to be part of.. find another guild. Seriously, you won't like Equilibrium if this isn't what you're ideally looking for.

2) Are you as mature as the typical 20+ year old adult, and no less than 17 years old?
You see that guideline on Recruiting Younger Players? We're a guild for mature players, meaning.. as mature as someone 20+ years old in real life - so, if you're under 20, you've got some convincing to do. You'll need to be able to explain to us clearly why you want to be in this guild, rather than another guild with younger players.. and why you're particularly mature for your age.
If you're under 16. Forget it. You'd be wasting your time to go further. We simply don't recruit people under 16 any more, and 16 year olds only extremely rarely.
Please note: If you lie about your age to get in, and we find out, you will be kicked from the guild and banned from reapplying.

3) Do you share our values on treating others with respect, and engaging them fairly, even in situations of conflict?
Our Principles include the statement "We strive to be calm, level-headed, respectful, and helpful to others - even in situations of conflict. Another's bad behaviour is no excuse for our own." You already read that and said yes to question 1, didn't you? But it's really important. Check our Guideline on Aggression as an example of how our members might handle conflict situations.

4) Are you a subscriber to Dofus (pay to play)?
Most of our guild activities take place in "paid member" areas, and we want people who can join in with the things we do. We're looking for new members to be Dofus subscribers (p2p) and intending to stay p2p.

5) Are you of a similar level to our members? Our members are currently typically levels 80-160.
We don't have a minimum level to join, but we prefer to recruit people who are of a suitable level to join in with the things our members do. If you're significantly lower level than our current full members, we might ask you to level up a bit and come back. We're also wary of recruiting people significantly higher level than our current members - mainly because we think you'd be bored. However, maturity and fit for the guild is more important than level, always.

6) Do you keep your game password to yourself, and avoid sharing your account with others?
We rely on our members to demonstrate a high degree of trustworthiness. While we recognise that an account might be shared we expect that high degree of trust to be transferred to whomever operates the account. If you share your account, the active player must make themselves known so that others know who is operating the account.

7) Are you applying to join the guild with your main character?
Primarily, we want to recruit players who will actively participate in our guild. We consider it the player who is a member, not the character, so we expect to see participate with an in-game commitment to Equilibrium. If you join EQ with your alt, we would look for the same level of commitment.

8) Do you already know someone in the guild who will vouch for you?
We rarely take on new members when we don't know them at all - so you'll need to help us get to know you.
So.. make it easy for us.. find someone in Equilibrium and go do some hunting with them. Chat with them a bit. Do your best to make this happen, and it'll make things easier when you apply. We have a group of trusted helpers who are happy to do things with applicants, you can find a list here on this forum. If you really can't find someone, go ahead and post your application on the forum, and we'll sort something out.

9) Are you prepared to be a little patient while we decide if you're a good fit for us, and us for you?
Mature adults are patient, and understand that finding the right people who fit into a guild takes a little while, right?
